Horsley - Some Local Events, 1838-1870Collated by Trevor Owen, © Copyright 2002, &c. The following information is based on recordings by Mrs Phyllis Ruby FUTTER, née YEOMANS (1910-1998). Mrs Futter had lived in an unnamed cottage in French Lane, Horsley nearly all her life and took a keen interest in village history. Her handwritten account was on display in the church until a short while ago, but has now been transcribed for us by her son in law Trevor Owen. Thomas Needham, a Bellringer, kept a diary of local events from 1838 to 1893 (see "Some Notes on Horsley Parish" by Rev G E Wigram 1928) Here are one or two extracts from the above:
