View of Rockside from Snitterton, Snitterton

Recent Photograph of View of Rockside from Snitterton (Snitterton)

This view of Rockside, Matlock, was taken from Snitterton, zoomed. It's about a mile away as the crow flies, but rather longer, and tougher by road!

This illustrates the apparently precarious position of this historic building on the hillside, and how apt the name ‘Rockside’ turns out to be!

Rockside was built as one of the many 19th century Hydros in Matlock. During WW2 it provided a temporary hospital, then in the 1950s and 60s it was in use as a College of Further Education (for Teacher-Training), but now has been converted into luxury appartments.
