United Reformed Church, Wirksworth

WIrksworth URC is situated on Coldwell Street, almost opposite the Baptist Church.

Derbyshire Record Office's Non-Conformist Register List says the original meeting place for this congregation was known as The Old Meeting or The Old Chapel, first built in 1700 by Presbyterians, with a reopening in 1803 by Independents. There was no burial ground, and many burials took place at Middleton Chapel.

Kelly's Directory of 1895 says the first chapel was founded in 1698, but by 1912 was saying 1700; though both agree that it was restored in 1868, at a cost of £1,350, with seating for 350. This is presumably the building we see today.
