The Cathedral, Lichfield (Above West Door)

Recent Photograph of The Cathedral (Above West Door) (Lichfield)

The statues in the lower row are named, but not all the names are available on our photographs. Reading left to right on this one, we have Kings Richard I, John, Henry III, Edward I, and Edward II. The series continues with Edward III (1327-1377) and Richard II, followed by the central figure of St Chad (S. Ceadda). It is rather curious to wonder how Edward III and Richard II were included, since according to the guide book, the west front was completed in 1327, the year Edward III came to the throne. Again, according to the guide book, the figures to the right of St Chad are Saxon kings.
