SOPWORTH, a parish in a detached portion of the hundred of CHIPPENHAM, county of WILTS, 7 miles (W. by S.) from Malmesbury, containing 222 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Wilts, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £S. 10. 5., and in the patronage of the Duke of Beaufort. The church is dedicated to St. Mary.
