The Inscription reads:

He was a follower of Darwin, Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew for 20 years and President of the Royal Society, 1872-77. He married the Revd W.S. (William Samuel) SYMONDS daughter Hyacinth - their marriage is recorded in the IGI at St Nicholas's Church Hereford on 22 Aug 1876. Hyacinth was then the widow of Sir William JARDINE - q.v. various sources online.
