Sir Francis Russell, Strensham (d.1705)

Recent Photograph of Sir Francis Russell (d.1705) (Strensham)

This Monument is to Francis RUSSELL, Bart. d. 1705, and his wife. He married Anne, daughter of Sir Rowland LYTTON of Knebworth, and was the last male representative of his line. On his death, he left Strensham to be divided between his three daughters, the eldest of which was Anne, Lady Guise.

The guide book describeds the style of the monument as “a superb example of the late restoration style with life-size, fully modelled figures of Sir Francis and his wife Anne ... the free form and general urbanity of the design signal the age of enlightenment”. It was designed and sculpted by Edward Stanton.
