SCROPTON, a parish in the hundred of APPLETREE, county of DERBY, 11 miles (W.S.W.) from Derby, containing, with Foston, 510 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Derby, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, and in the patronage of J. Broadhurst, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Paul. The river Dove runs through the parish.
