The Square, Middleton by Youlgreave‘The Square is just the right size to turn round a coach-and-four (nowadays it's Hulley's buses, five per day!)’[1]. This reminds me of a similar practicality which defined the amount of space decreed in London when laying out ‘T’ junctions - there had to be room to turn a hackney cab round in, without unhitching the horse (or horses)!.
