Birchwood Methodist Schoolroom, Birchwood

Recent Photograph of Birchwood Methodist Schoolroom (Birchwood)

The Schoolroom is an integral part of the Methodist Chapel, Birchwood. Although Sunday School was conducted here, effectively, this was the first day school for the village children. Attendance in Victorian times was quite good, even though parents were expected to pay. For example in 1865, 2d. per week, and a penny for siblings, then a mere 5 years later in 1871, 6d. per week. During the 1950's and 60's, a very popular Youth Club was held weekly.
