The grandfather of Billy (William) BUTLIN, founder of Butlins Holiday Camps, was a Vicar of St Swithun's church, Leonard Stanley for 27 years, between 1878 and 1906. William Heygate BUTLIN was admitted to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1858, and obtained his BA in 1862. His first appointment in Gloucestershire was as curate of Stroud 1864-5, holding other curacies from 1865-75; then from 1875-8 he held the post of Principal of Dartmouth Grammar School.
