St Mary's Church, Almeley

Recent Photograph of St Mary's Church (Almeley)

Old gravestones are piled up against the retaining wall of the old part of the Churchyard. Sadly many of them are no longer readable. The earliest part of the church dates from 1200. Behind us in this photograph is an even older structure, the motte and bailey of Almeley Castle. Nothing remains of the castle, but its ‘tump’ is very noticeable.
