Lower House, Brockhampton by Bromyard (1)

Recent Photograph of Lower House (1) (Brockhampton by Bromyard)

Another ‘black-and-white’ building which may lay claim to fame as being the most photographed in Herefordshire! This is the timber framed gatehouse dating from the late 15th century, featured on so many ‘chocolate boxes’ and picture postcards (on which somehow it always looks larger...) It is the entrance to ‘Lower Brockhampton House’ - a moated manor house of 14th century origin. The house was in use as an ordinary farmhouse until the 1950s, but now belongs to the National Trust, and is open to the public.
