Susanna Hodgson Memorial, Eardisley
The inscription records:
Near this Place
and among the Tombs of her husbands kindred
are deposited the earthly remains of
Susanna Matilda
the beloved wife of the Revd. Francis HODGSON, M.A.
Vicar of Bakewell Derbyshire
She was the fifth daughter of the late
Archdale Wilson TAYLER Esqr. & Frances Eliza his wife
formerly of Barham Wood in the County of Herts
After having fulfilled for eighteen years
the duties of the most affectionate
prudent, and pious wife
after having modestly exerted talents
and acquirements of no ordinary nature,
she died
(alas' for him who lives to record it)
in the forty-third year of her age,
at Lower-Moor in this Parish.
She was born September 3d. 1791
and departed this life October 6th. 1833
in the calmness of Christian Resignation,
and in humble reliance on
the Merits of her Redeemer.
Lost hope, lost all that charmd thy husbands life,
Sweet child of truth pure model of a wife
Dear as Love's heart can feel, or voice can tell
till holier happier regions oh Farewell.
