St Michael's Church, GarwayThe Tower is typically Welsh border style, and would have doubling as a place of refuge during the times of strife between the Welsh and English. It was originally detached from the nave of the church, but a passageway between the two was added in the 17th century, giving the church the curious ‘dog-leg’ perspective - or, as Pevsner puts it - ‘with a late 13C nave whose axis does not correspond with the tower at all’.
