St Peter's Church, Charlton St PeterHere is a village which was called simply ‘Charlton’ until fairly recently, when it became Charlton St Peter, presumably to avoid confusion with the other Charlton near Malmesbury. The church looks odd from a distance, but up close you can appreciate that apart from the north porch tower and the Perpendicular single-bayed chapel adjoining it to the North, the church has been rebuilt - by J L Pearson in the 19th century.
