ABNEY AND ABNEY GRANGE form a joint township, 3 miles S.W. from Hathersage, containing 685A. 3R. 29P. of land (besides 500A. of commons), and in 1851 had 99 inhabitants. Rateable value, £685. Humphrey Bowles, Esq., is lord of the manor, and he, with Col. Leslie, are the principal owners. The Wesleyans have a small Chapel here. The Farmers, in the township are, Geo. Bagshaw, Miss Martha Bagshaw, Rachael Bagshaw, Thomas Bagshaw, Upperfold, Joseph Bocking, William and Thomas Bocking...
