The Dovecote, Riddings

Recent Photograph of The Dovecote (Riddings)

This original Dovecote is situated in the farmyard of the former Riddings Hall Farm. The farm buildings surrounding it have been recently converted into mews type residencies. The farm lies between St. James's Church (spire visible in background) and Riddings Hall. In the 1870's, the farm steward/bailiff was Charles Richard CHAMBERLAIN, a native of Riddings. He married Ann Ellen Edwick COOK, the daughter of Somercotes butcher, George Edwick COOK (born Suffolk) and his wife, Ann HOYLAND of Brackenfield.

Ann HOYLAND was Peter Kirk's gt*2 grandmother; George Edwick COOK was her 2nd husband.
