Abney (Derbyshire) 1891 Census

Transcription from film/fiche of original Census returns held by The National Archives.
Registrar's Sub-District of Tideswell
Enumeration District, No. 8 (part of)
Abney in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St Barnabas Bradwell

Description of Boundaries and Contents of Enumeration District.
“The Whole of the Civil Parish of Abney and Abney Grange and Abney Low. The whole in the Parliamentary Division of West Derbyshire.”
The Enumerator was Mr. Joel Young.

Addresses contain Folio (‘F’), Page (‘P’) and Census Schedule (‘S’) Numbering - for example ‘F18/P1/S1’ - Folio 18, Page 1, Schedule 1. The Folio is the number hand-stamped at the top right of each odd-numbered page and the Schedule is the household sequence adopted for the Census return. This is not necessarily a house number, nor even an indication that particular households are next to each other, but merely the order the Enumerator recorded the households.

In 1891 the Census form included three columns to be marked if the person was "Employer", "Employee", or "Neither". This transcription (and FreeCEN) encapsulate this as a single letter here enclosed in SQUARE [] BRACKETS, which when present will follow the Occupation field and indicate whether the person was an Employer (‘R’), Employee (‘E’) or "Neither Employer nor Employed" (‘N’).
