St John the Baptist's Church, Chipping Sodbury (2)Once upon a time, Yate was a smallish village, and Chipping Sodbury a pleasant market town situated to north-east of Bristol. Yate is a typical 1960s town, housing estates of concrete and glass boxes, whereas Chipping Sodbury retains its attractive wide Cotswold High Street, with its collection of small retailers and businesses. The old medieval parish church of St John the Baptist should tower over its high street, yet it doesn't, despite the very tall and slim tower. (Information provided by Phil Draper)
