St Peter's Church, FramilodeSt Peter's Church is in an enviable position in good weather - at the end of a no-through road, overlooking the Severn Estuary - but possibly not so attractive when the river is in flood! My Reference source says it was built originally for the workers of the Darrell estate and was consecrated in 1854.[1] Also mentioned in their account is the interior decoration, which “incorporates nautical motifs as befits a (tidal) riverside church”, and its “beautiful painted ceilings”. Kelly's Directory of 1897 indicates that Miss Purnell of Stancombe Court, Stinchcombe, and Sir Leonard Darrell bart. of Fretherne Court, were then the chief landowners, so the connection between St Peter's Church, and the Court must have been a close one.
