St John the Baptist's Church, Mathon (S View)Showing St John the Baptist peeping out from behind its Yew tree. The village was visited by David Bellamy and his team from the Conservation Foundation in the 1980s when the tree was certified as being over 700 years old - the Certificate is inside the Church. This is older than Donnington's Yew, which was estimated at 480 years. The guide leaflet says it has a girth of 22½ feet, and estimates its age as 900 years. (Information provided by Rosemary Lockie)
