NORTON-in-HALES, a parish in the Drayton division of the hundred of BRADFORD (North), county of SALOP, 3 miles (N.E. by N.) from Drayton in Hales, containing 241 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at £5. 9. 4. The King presented for that turn in 1786. The church is dedicated to St. Chad. The learned Dr. Lightfoot, Master of Clare Hall, Cambridge, was rector of this parish.
