Some Memorial Inscriptions - New Brampton, Derbyshire
St Thomas's Churchyard

In May 2001 Terry Cocking, Stephen Kimberley and Jayne McHugh photographed the majority of the headstones at St Thomas's Churchyard. The Inscriptions on this page have been transcribed from these photographs by Rosemary Lockie. Even with image enhancement techniques, this was a difficult task, and some of them may be subject to other interpretations; however the original photos are provided as well, so if you are able to amend, or add to the transcriptions in any way please be our guest. :-)

Dates of death and ages were the most difficult items to decipher, for which I (Rosemary) had the assistance of a transcription of the Burials register (1832-1974) by Terry Cocking. Technically, this is 'cheating' as one should use the two sources in parallel to verify their respective accuracies, but needs must... As always, transcriptions are a finding aid only, and if the information is vital to your research, please check the original source (the gravestone), and I'll be glad to amend my transcription if necessary - thank you. To assist, I've indicated places where I've filled in from Terry's transcription - or have used 'creative' interpretation - by including the information in square [] brackets.

The following MI photographs were kindly contributed by Jayne McHugh, 23rd July 2003. Inscpriptions were transcribed from the photographs by Rosemary Lockie in January 2008.
