St John the Baptist's Church, Tideswell (2002)

Recent Photograph of St John the Baptist's Church (2002) (Tideswell)

This photograph was taken on a very hot day in Spring 1999. Note the ‘George Hotel’ sited next door to the Church - so convenient for thirsty worshippers after evensong! The white car in the foregound is my lovely old Citroen BX19 GTi since gone to that great home in the sky where all good cars go...

The George Hotel dates from 1730, and became well respected as a coaching inn in the Turnpike era sited as it was on the route of the Sheffield to Buxton Turnpike. Note its Venetian style windows.
