Rudge Memorial, Weston under Penyard

Recent Photograph of Rudge Memorial (Weston under Penyard)

This Monument to James Rudge, who died in 1808 has a less than expansive inscription, a relief above showing a man cradling another fallen, and a tethered horse behind. Above half-kneeling is presumably the deceased, a late example of this motif.

(Information provided by Phil Draper)

Ed: As best I can tell from the photo, the inscription says:-
Near this Place / are deposited / the Remains of
James RUDGE Esquire
late of (looks like) Koilnell / who departed this life
August the 1st [or 17th] 1808 in the 63
year of his age.
