Old Photograph of Eyam - Plague Service August 31st 1909

Old Photograph of Plague Service August 31st 1909 (Eyam)

This card is postmarked 31st August 1909. Andrew's father was born 5 days prior to this. The congregation are (presumably) led by the then Rector of Eyam Francis Longsdon Shaw, Rector from 1905-1918. Possibly he was the one to start off the tradition of an annual service, as the first annual service was held on 31st August of his first year in office, 1905.

An enlarged version (227K) of this photograph is available for those who would like a closer look.

(Information provided by Rosemary Lockie)

This is one of a series of postcards sent to Mary Elizabeth McCann (née Bamford) by friends and relatives living in Eyam, after she went to live in Romiley in Cheshire. She was the submitter, Andrew's grandmother.
