Well Dressing 'Golden Jubilee 1952-2002', Foolow

Recent Photograph of Well Dressing 'Golden Jubilee 1952-2002' (Foolow)

As is apparent, this very colourful Well from 2002 was designed to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee. The scene depicts the moment before the actual fact, but the timing for the design was crucial as the Foolow Well had won the Peak Park's 2001 competition to celebrate the founding of the Peak National Park in 1951 and as a result the 2002 design was to be featured in the 2003 edition Peakland Post newspaper.

The design is by Derek Lee, and this information was kindly contributed by him on 13th September 2003. The photograph is by Bill Ayers.

Derek has also provided some notes on The Derbyshire Custom of Well Dressing on a separate web page.
