Plaque to Richard Green, Fairford

Recent Photograph of Plaque to Richard Green (Fairford)

The plaque is on the side wall of the Free School building, and reads:

Near this Place
Lie interred the Remains
of
Mr. RICHARD GREEN
late Master of this Free-School
who departed this Life the 9th. Day of
November 1767 in the fifty fourth
Year of his Age.
The Integrity of his Life and Manners had
gained him the sincere Respect of his
Neighbours, and the uncommon Assiduity
and Abilities, with which he discharged
the Duties of his Profession, for more
than fourteen Years in this School,
have made his Death a Publick Loss;
and he will be long lamented by
all those, that know the Value
of so useful a character.
