St Mary the Virgin's Church, Forthampton

Recent Photograph of St Mary the Virgin's Church (Forthampton)

St Mary the Virgin's church sits proudly on its hill, where it is safe from flooding from the several village ponds, one of which, called the Pound Pool, can be seen in the foreground - from this viewpoint it looks more like the remnant of a former moat! More prosaically, perhaps, the church guide book says it was “a former ducking pool for scolding wives”. The street sign in front of it says “Church Lane”.
