St Bridget's Church, Skenfrith / Ynysgynwraidd (The Tower)

Recent Photograph of St Bridget's Church (The Tower) (Skenfrith / Ynysgynwraidd)

The unique feature of St Bridget's is the Dovecote in the tower. Skenfrith is close to the borders of Monmouthshire with Herefordshire, and the tower belongs to the time when it would have provided a fortification for those seeking to avoid border skirmishes. The walls are five feet thick, and the doorway to the tower has a big timber bolt, and meanwhile the dovecote provided both a source of food, and a means of communication with the outside.
