St John the Evangelist's Church, Sutton Veny

Recent Photograph of St John the Evangelist's Church (Sutton Veny)

The old St Leonard's Church (now in ruins) lies away from the present centre of the village, at the end of a no through road.

Visitors to the area however can hardly miss Sutton Veny as this replacement church can be seen for miles around, thanks to its superb central tower and spire. The church was built in 1866-68, and the architect was J.L. Pearson.

To the west and north of the nave are a large collection of War Graves; nearly every one I saw here was Australian, and killed in the first World War.
