St Peter's Church, Withington

Recent Photograph of St Peter's Church (Withington)

St Peter's Church Spire is visible from a considerable distance, being sited - as are many churches in the area - on the higher ground of the village. Yet when I first drove past it from the top end of the village, I missed it as it is also shrouded in trees. It is nevertheless a lovely church, and well worth my persistence in retracing my steps.

The church itself, in spite of a very modern appearance, dates from the late 12th century. The Lych Gate, although restored, is later, and according to the history displayed inside the church, dates from the 16th century.
