People of Stoney Middleton - Coronation Celebrations (1937)

Old Photograph of Coronation Celebrations (1937) (Stoney Middleton)

This is the left half of a large photograph of Stoney Middleton ‘folk’ taken at the Sheep Roast to commemorate the Coronation on 12th May 1937.

The two standing against the wall at the back are left to right William (“Billie”) GODDARD (my father) and James (“Jimmie”) MYCOCK. In the front row on the far left is Geoff MASON; the man holding his hat is Lincoln MASON. To his right is Denys MASON (Tony Mason's father), the big fellow is Alfred EIDSON. On the far right seated next to him is Alfred Edwin HANCOCK (Janet Kirk's grandfather), who in the white coat was clearly one of the butchers in charge of the proceedings!

Actually, I never really understood why butchers wore white coats when they were so often spattered with blood... at least in my day they were!

My father and James MYCOCK are also on the photograph of The Goddard Girls; Lincoln MASON is also on the one of the Woodwork Class; and Alfred EIDSON is also on the second of Goddard's Quarry.
