People of Stoney Middleton - Mary Goddard (1837-1930)

Old Photograph of Mary Goddard (1837-1930) (Stoney Middleton)

Mary GODDARD (looking very stern and upright!!) was born early in 1837, and baptised at Stoney Middleton on 10 May 1837, the daughter of James and Jane GODDARD. She married Robert ANDREW in 1860. Prior to her marriage, she had been employed by a Mrs HUGHES as her sewing maid. Mrs Hughes clearly held Mary in high esteem, as prior to her marriage she had presented her with a Bible, with the inscription: “Presented to Mary Goddard by Mrs Hughes as a token of respect for her faithful services Feb. 2nd 1859”.

This information was very kindly provided to me by one of her great granddaughters, Amy Schofield. Amy also has a wedding present of Mary's, “a red cotton pincushion edged with lace and ‘R. & M. Andrew 1860’ made into a lovely pattern with pins, none of which are rusty”.

Robert and Mary were the parents of Amanda Andrew - “Aunt Manda”.
