STOKE is a small township 1½ miles N.E. from Stoney Middleton, contains 506 acres of land, and in 1861 had 68 inhabitants. Rateable value, £415. The Hon H. B. Simpson is lord of the manor and Sole owner. Directory:- Joseph Bennett, Goatscliff; Charles Trickett, and George Outram, farmers; Robert Outram, millsone manufacturer, Padley Wood Quarry; and Thomas Outram, Woodman, (the) Hall.
