Transcribed by Michael Greatorex, © Copyright 1977
This webpage contains a partial transcription of the Memorial Inscriptions in
St John the Baptist's Churchyard Winster, Derbyshire, completed
by Michael Greatorex in 1977.
The list also includes names from the War Memorial. It was erected in 1920
and the names listed are inscribed on its South Tablet. The dedication, on its
East Tablet reads:
"To The Glory Of God / And In Grateful Memory Of The / Men From
This Parish Who / Fought And Died In / The Great War 1914-1918 / Death Is
Swallowed Up In Victory."
The position of each of the graves numbered below is shown on the accompanying
Graveyard Plan; however please note that it is possible -
after more than 30 years - that some stones may have disappeared, or may have
inscriptions which are no longer readable.
